We could never recommend that anyone purchase this television given its tiny size and incredible price. But as a glimpse into the promising future of OLED televisions, the Sony XEL-1 is technically brilliant.

As a technological tour de force, we’re extremely impressed with the Sony Bravia KDL40ZX1. It’s ultra-thin, delivers good picture quality and the wireless video streaming is an innovation we’re hoping will become commonplace.

Apart from a few small niggles, the Samsung Series 7 (UA46B7100) LED television is a very impressive unit. Pictures are consistently impressive no matter what content is used, while the stylish design and great feature set make this television one of the best complete packages we’ve seen.

We’re sad to say that this is the last Pioneer plasma television for the foreseeable future — and likely the last ever. Pioneer leaves the market on a high note though: the Kuro PDP-LX609A is the best plasma television screen we’ve seen.

Sony's BRAVIA KDL55XBR45 Full HD LCD television is fantastic for watching content of any kind. When compared to its direct rival, the Samsung Series 9, it has a few inadequacies, but overall it is a strong performer and well worth its price tag.

Samsung's Series 9 LA46A950 is the best LCD TV on the market. While not perfect, its flaws are negligible and it offers an incredible combination of deep blacks, rich colours, sharp images and great motion, along with a host of bonus features, making it the panel to watch out for this Christmas season.

Sony's Bravia KDL40Z4500 is a fantastic Full HD TV. It's Australia's first 200Hz television and it provides an excellent Motion Flow mode; the real faults we could find with it were a question of personal taste.

Samsung's LA52A750 is a fantastic upgrade to the previously top-of-the-line Series 6 units. It has the same great image quality but throws in a bunch of new connectivity and streaming features and a built-in content library.

While the image can be a little noisy at times, the incredible blacks and great contrast ratio, along with the speedy refresh rate, make the Samsung LA40A650 one of the better full HD LCDs on the market.

Another great plasma from Panasonic. The TH-42PZ800A produces a great picture with some of the best blacks we've seen; it only suffers from a few niggling issues.
