The introduction of DLP has dramatically dropped the average price of projectors. Thanks to increasing competition between different technologies, you can now pick up a projector for $2000 that would have cost $10,000 just a few years ago. Low-end projectors can be bought for as little as $1500, but don't expect them to be particularly useful in anything other than a small dark room. If you want a projector capable of high brightness levels (around 2000-2500 lumens) then expect the price to rise to the $3000+ mark depending on added features. A full high-definition 1080p projector, suitable for HD-DVD, Blu-ray and HD gaming projection will set you back even more due to the fact that is a new and emerging technology.

For a more portable model, you will have to pay even more. If you are looking for a state of the art, permanent installation for a large hall or conference room, you will be looking at upwards of $10,000 (sometimes as high as $50,000 or $75,000). Generally with projectors you get what you pay for. There are a wide range of factors to consider, and not all will be relevant to your specific circumstances. If you plan ahead, know the scenarios in which you are likely to be using it and if you do your homework, you will be able to find a projector to suit your needs.
