Polycom and Telstra have entered a co-branding agreement for Telstra's IP Telephony (TIPT) service.

Under the arrangement, and working on conjunction with Dimension Data, Telstra will provide co-branded Polycom SountPoint IP handsets to customers. The TIPT service is aimed at SMB through to enterprise and government. The handsets include Polycom's high-definition voice software with noise reduction technology and feature built-in screens and user interface.

Polycom A/NZ country manager, Michael Chetner, said the co-branding arrangement was the result of a number of years of work between the two companies.

"We've been working with Telstra since 2004, which was around when we began providing handsets for the IP Centrex solution," he said.

Australia continues to be important to Polycom's growth and worldwide unified communications strategy, Chetner said.

"The APAC region is experiencing the highest growth worldwide for Polycom's VoIP handsets, and Australia is one of the stronger areas in the region. This deal with Telstra reflects this growth for us," he said.

In a statement, Telstra executive director for data IP and enterprise services, Philip Jones, said Polycom's HD voice technology and expertise in feature integration made them the ideal preferred handset partner for the TIPT service.
