Things are finally getting interesting with E-Ink products. The first time I read about E-Ink products was around 5 years ago. I remember watching videos of a cute Japanese girl bending a paper thin (or should I say plastic thin) display device and being absolutely stunned with technology. I kept thinking to myself, 'wow... finally, the future is now!'

So, here we are, 5 years later and there is a slow trickle of E-Ink goodness making its way down to consumers. The first products we saw were E-book reader devices, and we are slowly seeing some other applications of E-Ink technology. If you're unfamiliar with the technology, E-Ink is a display technology which might have a slow response time, but gives incredibly bright and high contrast images, and is also able to retain the displayed image without using any additional energy. The actual device resembles a plastic membrane which can be bent and folded away, and unrolled when needed.

The latest E-Ink gizmo is a giant digital clock, shown in the picture below, retailing for around $7000 AUD, and it's capable of telling the.... time.

Well, maybe we aren't there just yet, but soon enough... soon enough.
