Apple will showcase the OS X iPhone 2.0 platform at its annual Worldwide Development Conference scheduled to occur in San Francisco next month.

According to Apple, the event will feature an iPhone track tailored to give mobile developers hands-on experience with the OS X iPhone 2.0 platform, which will include the iPhone software development kit (SDK) and the App Store, which the company says will allow developers to wirelessly sell and deliver their applications to iPhone users. Additionally, developers will have the opportunity to work with Apple engineers to create their own applications on site using the iPhone's Multi-Touch user interface, animation technology and APIs.

Apple originally announced that new applications for the iPhone could be purchased through the App Store in March. Apple says the new application will be modeled after its popular iTunes store and will let users download applications directly to their devices. Apple is letting developers set their own prices for the applications and will give them 70 per cent of all sales revenue they generate.

The Worldwide Development Conference is scheduled to kick off on June 9 with a keynote address from Apple CEO Steve Jobs. The conference is expected to last five days.
