Some Australian iPhone users who have installed the latest iPhone OS update have reported difficulties re-connecting to their mobile providers.

The problem seems to have affected users from ISPs including Telstra, Optus and Vodafone who have upgraded to iPhone OS 2.0.1.

Users who have encountered the problem have been unable to re-connect their iPhones, instead receiving error message 0xE8000001.

Some OS 2.0.1 users have also reported problems performing the carrier settings update triggered by the upgrade. These users have encountered an error message, with their iPhones attempting to repeat the update every time the devices are synched.

According to iPhone Atlas, the restore process can sometimes fix the problem, but this will erase any contacts, calendars, photos and other data that haven't been backed up.
