    Canon PowerShot A1000 IS 05/11/2008 17:00:00

A cheaper alternative to the A2000 IS, the Canon PowerShot A1000 IS is in many ways a similar unit. While it does have a slightly smaller display and a shorter lens, it is also a bit lighter and more petite, making it more portable and more comfortable to use. Otherwise, there is little to differentiate the two, and the A1000 is a strong option for novice photographers.

    Microsoft Sidewinder X5 04/11/2008 16:10:00

Sporting an intimidating all-black design, the Microsoft Sidewinder X5 is a somewhat simple but quite effective mouse for gaming enthusiasts. It doesn’t feature a plethora of gimmicks like adjustable weight or an LCD display, but it does have on–the-fly DPI adjustment and several programmable buttons, as well as extremely accurate tracking, making it a good, no-fuss solution for gamers.

AOC has always provided some of the more budget options in the monitor space and its products have been hit and miss. Unfortunately, its latest 22in widescreen, the 2219P2, is one of the latter. Although it performed relatively well in some of our tests, it exhibited some truly horrible ghosting and some pretty serious backlight bleeding that made the overall user experience quite poor.

    Olympus MJU 1060 29/10/2008 09:00:00

Olympus has long been in the habit of creating well-rounded cameras. The combination of style, features and image quality has always been a selling point. However, while its latest compact, the MJU 1060, ticks several of these boxes, it is also a bit of a let-down in some areas, with some noise and speed issues marring what would otherwise be a strong product.

    Nikon CoolPix S560 23/10/2008 13:30:00

Following on from its predecessor, the CoolPix S550, the Nikon CoolPix S560 is a middle-of-the-road compact camera. It has received a few upgrades, including a larger 2.7in LCD and, critically, sensor-shift stabilisation instead of the much less effective electronic version. However, its pictures suffer in several ways, including high levels of noise and a fair amount of under-sharpening, which mean the output is only suitable for casual users.

Joining the A350 in the middle of Sony’s Alpha SLR line-up, the A300 is a fairly similar camera to its big brother.
