Samsung's SyncMaster 2493 is an almost flawless 24in display. It renders motion excellently, has great contrast and colour reproduction and packs in an HDMI input and a resolution of 1920x1080. Whatever you're using your display for, this unit should cut the mustard.

Consider this monitor if you want a larger resolution for the home or office, but don't want a huge monitor to dwarf you as you sit at your desk. Maybe give it a miss if you're a gamer, as you might notice too much blurring.

AOC's 2219P2 would have been a pretty middle-of-the-road monitor, but the horrible ghosting issues we encountered coupled with the backlight bleeding mean this is probably a display to steer clear of.

Although the G2200W is cheap for a 22in monitor, you don’t get much for the price. Poor black levels and backlight bleeding make for an unimpressive monitor, though for occasional use it may prove useful.

As long as you’re not expecting blistering performance then BenQ’s T221W does an average to good job. For the price it commands, we weren’t expecting much more.

It may be the world’s slimmest 22in monitor, but this unit still delivers reasonable performance.

The lack of height adjustment and the glossy panel will turn some users away. These faults aside, there is a lot to like about the 2230Fm. The DMP engine isn’t great, but if you’re after an all-rounder with good image quality, this is a reasonable choice.

For colour critical applications, this monitor is ideal. Its colours were vibrant and its black level was perfect.

A nice all-rounder, BenQ's 24in G2400W offers HDMI connectivity for media enthusiasts and balanced colour reproduction for professionals.

A competent multimedia-oriented monitor, the HP w2228h offers HDMI connectivity and good image quality. However, the reflective coating will bother many users, particularly under fluorescent lights.

HP's w2448hc is a fairly good but not outstanding 24in panel. While its HDMI connectivity and built-in webcam are both boons, the glossy finish is extremely distracting and there are some colour issues that may annoy image quality purists.

BenQ’s V2400W features a stylish design, and its excellent performance in most areas means that it’s ideal for the typical PC user or gamer. The addition of HDMI should also appeal to console owners.
