Donkey Kong Country Returns

Donkey Kong Country is a title whose historical impact in the industry can't be denied. Besides helping popularise the idea of pre-rendered 3D visuals in 2D games (and eventually inspiring the development of today's "2.5D" games), its popularity is c...

Ys: The Oath in Felghana

Action/RPGs are in no short supply on portable consoles, but trying to find the cream of the crop is a difficult task. While, you can always rely on the DS to deliver titles like Zelda, the PSP action/RPG market has, up until this point, generally la...

Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals

Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals could best be described as "uneven." It's a pretty daunting task to live up to a standard set by a genuine 16-bit classic, and it's clear that the developers behind this title had lofty aspirations. There are many point...

Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City

Today's my first day in the big city of Armoroad! This place is huge! I hear they want people to explore this dungeon thing they have. There's something about a sunken city, too. That sounds mysterious and awesome! It definitely sounds more fun than ...

James Bond 007: Blood Stone preview

While the remake of GoldenEye has been capturing most of the public's attention, Activision has another Bond adventure on tap for HD consoles. Read on for impressions of 007 Blood Stone, the action-shooter in the works from the Project Gotham Racing ...

Ivy the Kiwi?

Most gamers will recognise Yuji Naka for his role in creating the iconic character Sonic the Hedgehog, whose many adventures were instrumental in keeping Sega competitive with Nintendo and its plump plumber.

Arc Rise Fantasia

Arc Rise Fantasia is probably the best Wii-exclusive RPG to date. This isn't as big a compliment as it might seem though, as it wins that honour by default due to lack of serious competition.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

It's hard to talk about Dragon Quest without mentioning its massive presence in Japan, where it's gone beyond a game series to become a cultural institution akin to Star Wars or Harry Potter in North America. Square-Enix knows well that DQ's massive ...

DeathSmiles

There's a Japanese developer called Cave whom I've long adored that has very little presence outside their homeland. They're most known for arcade 2D scrolling shooting games -- but not just any shooting games: Cave specializes in the "bullet hell" s...

Persona 3 Portable

When Persona 3 first hit in late 2007, the game was roundly praised as one of the best Japanese RPGs to come out in years and celebrated as a top title in the twilight days of the PS2.

Nier

Nier is an average game at best, which is why it's so strange that I fell in love with it. It's a really strange feeling: there are numerous things about Nier that I found completely irritating, and yet, I was completely enthralled by it, becoming mo...

Monster Hunter Tri

Despite Capcom's best efforts, the Monster Hunter franchise has struggled to gain a foothold with Western gamers, even as their Japanese brethren rabidly devote countless hours to every new release.

Super Street Fighter IV

Fighting game fans have long been used to the necessary evil of the upgrade. A game comes out, people find a multitude of exploits and bugs, and designers step in to release a new version that adds fixes while also throwing in a few extra characters ...

Yakuza 3

It surprises me that the Yakuza series is often compared to Grand Theft Auto. Both games involve criminals in some way, but that's about where the similarities stop.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey

The latest Shin Megami title certainly has an appropriate name. Strange Journey is a strange game for two reasons: one, it's an M-rated DS title, which is exceptionally rare, and two, it's about a futuristic multinational army that ventures to an Ant...

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre x360

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
