Kogan Agora 4G Pro v Motorola Moto G v Microsoft Lumia 640

Pre-orders open up for Kogan's new flagship

Kogan has launched its flagship Agora 4G Pro as the etailer increases its competitive in the budget end of the smartphone market.

The Agora 4G Pro joins Kogan’s existing range of smartphones, which includes the BenQ-manufactured Agora 4G and Agora 4G+.

Top-end specs position it as the flagship of Kogan’s range, as it has an improved screen, better computing hardware and higher resolution cameras.

A $299 price puts it in contention with Motorola’s $279 Moto G and Microsoft’s $299 Lumia 640 — two of the hottest smartphones in the budget end of the market.

How does the Agora 4G Pro measure against the competition?

The Agora 4G Pro has a 5.2-inch, Full HD display that has a 424 pixel-per-inch density. This is greater than the 294ppi displays of the Microsoft Lumia 640 and the Motorola Moto G (2nd generation).

The 4G Pro runs the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, much like Motorola’s Moto G.

Powering it is a 1.5GHz octa-core CPU, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Support for microSDXC memory cards make it possible to expand storage by a further 64GB.

Computing hardware exceeds that of its rivals — at least on paper. Microsoft and Motorola’s smartphones have similar processing innards, which includes a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and support for expandable micorSD cards.

The resolution of the Agora’s rear camera has idled at 13 megapixels; however, its front camera has increased to 8 megapixels.

The cameras found in Microsoft and Motorola’s smartphones have lower resolution cameras, with 0.9-and 2-megapixel front cameras respectively. Both smartphones have an 8-megapixel rear camera.

Kogan claims the 4G Pros 2500 milliamp-hour battery will hold charge for a day. The more powerful phone has the same capacity then as Microsoft’s Lumia 640, and a larger battery than the 2070 mAh battery used in the Moto G.

The on-paper part of the Agora 4G Pro’s story reads well, but that accounts for only half of the experience. Our upcoming full review will determine if build quality and more serve it justice.

I’d happily recommend this touchscreen laptop and Windows 10 as a great way to get serious work done at a desk or on the road.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre x360

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
