Motorola Moto 360: On sale 31 October for $329

Only limited stock available

Motorola’s hyped Moto 360 smartwatch will finally go on sale in Australia on 31 October. The smartwatch is priced at $329 and will be sold in limited numbers at Australian retailers, such as Harvey Norman and Dick Smith.

Australian carriers, which do not stock Motorola smartphones, will not stock the smartwatch.

Hands on with the Motorola Moto 360

Motorola is offering the stainless steel Moto 360 in two colours: stainless steel black with black leather band, and stainless steel silver with stone leather band. A steel band version will become available in early 2015 for $359.

Motorola’s Moto 360 is the first smartwatch to come with a circular face. Its LCD display spans 1.56 inches and, with the leather band affixed, the smartwatch weighs a light 49 grams.

The elegant time-piece doubles as a fitness companion as it comes with a waterproof IP67 rating, a pedometer and an optical heart rate.

Motorola preinstalls six different watch-faces on the Moto 360.

Charging the Motorola 360 will be done wirelessly by placing it on an included dock. Motorola estimates its 320 milliamp-hour battery will last for a day with “mixed use”.

Inside the 11mm watchface is a Texas Instruments OMPA 3 processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

The Moto 360 runs Android Wear, a smartwatch version of Google’s mobile operating system. Wear acts as an extension of Android smartphones by presenting contextual, wrist-styled notifications to smartwatches. It also makes it possible to conduct Internet searches over voice and use smartwatches as a remote control for compatible devices.

The smartwatch pairs to Android 4.3 smartphones and newer, over a low energy rendition of Bluetooth 4.0.

Motorola unveiled its smartwatch at the Google I/O conference earlier this year, alongside renditions from Samsung and LG. The circular watchface garnered fans with the long wait only compounding the hype.

Update, 6:18pm: Added steel band pricing.

I’d happily recommend this touchscreen laptop and Windows 10 as a great way to get serious work done at a desk or on the road.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
