Optus launches carrier aggregated LTE on 2300MHz spectrum

Two 20MHz allotments combine to reach 160Mbps in real world testing

Optus has commercially launched LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide using two 20MHz allotments of its 2300MHz spectrum.

Combined, the two channels promise a theoretical maximum speed of 220 megabits per second (Mbps; or 27 megabytes per second); Optus said it achieved single user peak speeds of more than 160Mbps (or 20MBps) in its real world tests.

The telecommunications provider claims that customers with compatible devices can “typically expect up to two times faster data speeds.”

Optus expects to see at least four compatible devices to be available in Australia in the next two months.

“We are future-proofing our network in response to consumers’ growing appetite for mobile streaming, browsing and downloading,” Optus networks managing director, Vic McClelland, said.

“Carrier Aggregation supports that shift by turbo-charging a customer’s 4G data experience, enabling concurrent video streaming and faster HD video downloads, and by generally delivering a better mobile data experience when in a coverage area.”

The next phase of Optus’ carrier aggregation roll-out will see the service hit Canberra.

McClelland said Optus remains focussed on extending its 4G reach to 90 per cent of the population by April 2015.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
