LG promotional video reveals G3 flagship, corroborates string of leaks

The rumours are true: LG has been working on something big

LG has outed its upcoming G3 handset in a promotional video intended to showcase its ‘QuickCircle’ functionality. The official image corroborates a slew of recent G3 leaks.

The promotional video reveals several G3 features can be accessed while the case remains closed, such as the front camera and music player. The QuickCase display is circular and the applications are styled in a theme reminiscent of Android Wear.

Only the facade of the LG G3 is on display, but the quick glimpse is enough to corroborate a long string of leaks. Popular tipster Evleaks posted supposed press renders of the LG G3, which are identical to the smartphone depicted in LG's promotional video. The YouTube video, at the time of writing, has been set to private.

A leak published by GForGames reveals the specifications of the smartphone. Standing out from the list is a 5.5in, 2560x1440 resolution screen that will give the G3 an unparalleled 534 pixel-per-inch density. For the sake of comparison, Apple’s ‘retina’ display maxes at 326 pixels-per-inch.

The Android 4.4 smartphone will have a Snapdragon 801 chipset, a 4G modem, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Missing from the leak are details on the CPU and whether or not the G3 supports expandable memory.

Leaked presentation slides reveal the G3 will be 8.9mm thick and 146mm tall, which will make it as tall as HTC’s One, even though the smartphone will have 0.5in larger screen.

LG will officially launch the G3 on 27 May at a launch event held in London.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.
