Who makes the better smartphone, Samsung or HTC?

Samsung's Galaxy S5 versus HTC's One (M8)

Final thought

Samsung has made a good phone, but HTC has made a great one. Whereas the Samsung has focussed on function at the expense of design, HTC has perfected the details people will use everyday. Every small part of it, from the design to the sound, has been refined to deliver an experience that is unforgettable.

HTC has perfected the details people will use everyday

The results of a recent Good Gear Guide poll seem to agree. More than 600 GGG readers voted for the best smartphone of 2014. Almost one in two people (48%) intend to buy the HTC One (M8), while roughly one in four (29%) want the Samsung Galaxy S5 at the time of writing.

These results signify HTC’s gradual shift from smartphone contender to trend-setter. In fact, HTC’s recent go-to market strategy, where the company unveiled the One (M8) last and then released it in stores first, reminded us of a younger Samsung: passionate, studios and hungry.

We have included the poll below. Feel free to register your vote, share it with your friends and voice your opinion in the comments section. Over time, the poll’s results could see another smartphone grab the lion’s share of votes. And that would be perfectly fine.

Winner: HTC One (M8)

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre x360

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
