HP Chromebook 11 goes back on sale following recall

HP and Google team up to re-release the Chromebook 11 for under $400

The Google and HP developed Chromebook 11 has gone back on sale in Australia after a brief recall over the Christmas break.

Sales of the Chromebook 11 were halted after the ACCC issued a recall notice over concerns its Micro-USB charger could overheat and burn people. Initially Google touted the generic charger as one of the Chromebook 11’s advantages.

The Chromebook 11 has an 11in screen that has a 1366x768-pixel resolution. It is powered by a Samsung Exynos 5 Dual CPU, has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of SSD storage. The notebook comes with 100GB of Google Drive cloud storage for use with the suite of services featured in Google Chrome OS.

The chassis has been made from ‘light’ and ‘sturdy’ magnesium. Google estimates the 30 Watt-hour battery will keep the Chromebook 11 running for “6 hours of active use”.

The HP Chromebook 11 is available now from JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman or Google’s online store for $399. But before you commit, check out our upcoming review of the Chromebook 11, which we'll be bringing you as soon as possible.

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
