Cube 3D printers go on sale at Officeworks

Officeworks is selling the Cube 3D printer in stores and online, along with ABS and PLA consumables

Officeworks has become the first retailer in Australia to sell a 3D printer. The 3D Systems Cube 3D printer is available for $1499, and can create 3D printed objects by melting a plastic filament and building it up in layers.

Officeworks said the Cube 3D is the only 3D printer to be certified for safe at-home use, meaning it can also be used by children. The retailer's technology business manager, Toby Watson, said in a statement that the Cube 3D printer “is a 3D printer for everyone — it’s easy to use, and helps you turn your big ideas into tangible objects you can hold.”

He also said that Officeworks is “really excited to see where our customers can take the Cube 3D printer as they explore the limitless range of creative, boundary-pushing designs available.”

The Cube 3D is capable of printing objects up to a size of 140mm cubed, and it comes with 25 free designs to get you started. Furthermore, Officeworks points to the Cubify Store as another resource for obtaining 3D models that can be printed, and says that models can also be created using software such as Cubify Invent.

Two types of plastic will be available to use as consumables with the Cube 3D : ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) plastic, which is recyclable and said to be the second easiest 3D printing material to work with, or PLA (Polylactic Acid) plastic, which is said to be compostable and perhaps the easiest 3D printing material to work with. The ABS plastic cartridges are available for $60 and come in blue, red, silver, and white (all sold separately). The PLA cartridges also cost $60 and are available in black and white.

The Cube 3D printer is available to purchase online or from 21 store locations, though only the white and silver versions of the printer are available in stores, with blue and magenta versions available only online.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

A smarter way to print for busy small business owners, combining speedy printing with scanning and copying, making it easier to produce high quality documents and images at a touch of a button.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre x360

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
