Vodafone unveils new Red plans with VIP customer service

$65, $80, and $100 Red plans include Australian-based customer service

Vodafone has announced three new mobile phone plans in Australia under the "Red" brand, boasting unlimited calls and text and guaranteeing Australian-based customer service.

None

Available from Wednesday, 28 August, the new postpaid Red plans are priced at $65, $80 and $100 per month, and include 1.5GB, 2.5GB, and 5GB of data, respectively.

All three plans include unlimited calls, SMS and MMS messages within Australia, are available on a 24 month contract, and offer 4G connectivity. Unlike Vodafone's existing plans, there is no option to sign a 12 month contract on the Red plans.

The new Red plans offer "guaranteed" Australian customer service through Vodafone's Australian call centre based in Hobart, Tasmania.

Vodafone's chief executive officer, Bill Morrow, says the guaranteed Australian customer service aims to combat a long time "problem" in the mobile industry.

"Customer service has been a problem across the industry for too long. Our customers tell us they want to speak to someone who understands them and can offer local, expert service."

"We've had a customer service team in Australia for 14 years and we're further expanding on that to ensure calls are answered in Australia."

The Red plans also offer an additional $5 a day option for international roaming in the US, UK and NZ, which Vodafone announced last month.

The $5 charge will be ticketed per day of use, and the data, calls and text messages sent will be charged according to the rates of the customer's existing Red plan.

Morrow said further countries will be added to the $5 daily roaming plans over time, though did not clarify a specific time frame.

"We are serious about doing something about the high cost of international roaming and have begun the journey with the US, UK and NZ, which is where 40 per cent of our customers travel the most. Customers can expect more countries to be added to that list over time."

Vodafone will offer the Red plans as a SIM-only option if customers bring their own phone. The plans will be reduced by $15 each to $50, $65 and $85, respectively, and don't require a lock-in contract.

The Red plans also include $65, $80 or $100, depending on the face value of the plan, to spend on international calls, or calls to 13/1800 and premium numbers.

The Vodafone Red plans will be available in retail stores and online from Wednesday, 28 August.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
