Asus announces Transformer Book Trio with Windows and Android

Asus combines Windows 8 and Android into a PC, laptop and tablet hybrid

Asus has unveiled its Transformer Book Trio at Computex 2013. The firm is calling the device, which runs Windows 8 and Android, a cross between a PC, laptop and tablet.

The Transformer Book Trio is described by Asus as 'the world's first three-in-one mobile device' providing 'unparalleled flexibility in work, play, and social activity'.

"Transformer Book Trio transforms mobile flexibility by switching effortlessly between a Windows 8 notebook, Android tablet and Windows 8 desktop PC." said Asus.

The Asus Transformer Book Trio has a detachable 11.6in Full HD (1920x1080) IPS screen and is powered by a 2GHz Intel Atom processor. It has up to 64GB of flash storage on board.

Its PC Station Dock has a fourth generation, Haswell Core i7 from Intel and a 750GB hard drive.Despite running Windows 8 and Android, users can sync data or, for example, keep browsing the same webpage when moving from notebook to tablet mode. A hot key allows users to switch between the two operating systems easily.

Asus has also announced a plethora of other devices at Computex as part of its 'We Transform' event, including the new Transformer Pad Infinity which is the world's first Nvidia Tegra 4 tablet.There's also the Memo Pad HD 7, a budget tablet, and the Fonepad Note FHD 6, a Full HD phablet.Furthermore, Asus introduced the VivoPC, VivoMouse and RT-AC68U Wireless Router.

There's no pricing information for the Asus Transformer Book Trio yet. The device is expected to launch in Q3 this year.

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
