Samsung Galaxy S4 suffers from storage woes

Samsung Galaxy S4 only offers half the advertised storage

As well as stock shortages, the Samsung Galaxy S4 is suffering from internal storage problems.

It's acceptable for the internal storage of a smartphone or similar device to have a little less storage than advertised. After all, the operating system can't just exist in thin air so much be placed somewhere. See also: Samsung Galaxy S4 delayed in the UK.

However, Samsung is pushing its luck with the Galaxy S4 - the firm's new shiny all singing all dancing flagship handset for 2013. See: Best Samsung Galaxy S4 contract deals.

We've seen numerous reports and mentions in reviews that the Galaxy S4 has significantly less storage than advertised. Most seem to have just over 9GB available for a 16GB model but some have even less.

This is likely to be due to Samsung's heavily customised Android overlay and all its extra software features like Air View, Smart Scroll, Dual Camera and more.

Ok, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has a microSD card slot (which some Android rivals don't have) so you can buy a card, whack it in, and the problem is solved. Despite this adding cost to an already premium priced smartphone.

Well, not entirely because external storage isn't ideal for certain file types and not all apps can be installed or moved to the SD card. It's also just a pain to have two volumes to deal with.

Let us know what you think, should smartphone makers be forced to explicitly state how much storage is available?

I’d happily recommend this touchscreen laptop and Windows 10 as a great way to get serious work done at a desk or on the road.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
