Ubisoft’s ShootMania Storm has been pencilled in for release on April 10, with an open beta starting on February 12.
During the open beta phase, developer Nadeo will accept feedback from the community to polish the game up before its release in April. Nadeo is known for its free arcade racing game, TrackMania, and the developer is hoping to bring the same type of user driven design sensibility to the first person shooter with ShootMania Storm.
Nadeo Live managing director, Anne Bondel-Jouin, said the studio’s development model has always aimed to be “very close to the community.”
“Gollowing the release of the Beta 2 in December, we received a tremendous amount of information from the very active ShootMania community,” she said.
“For a living, online multiplayer title like this the work is never done, but these extra few weeks will allow us to polish the game further and release it to the level of quality we think our players deserve.”
User created content was the heart of TrackMania and the trend continues with ShootMania Storm, with more than 15 game modes and 20,000 maps having been created by players using the proprietary map editor, ManiaPlanet.
The developer is very active in including ShootMania Storm in the eSport scene, having already participated in the IPL 5 tournament in Las Vegas, Electronic Sports World Cup 2012 in Paris, and i47 in the UK.
Follwoing Nadeo and Ubisoft announcing their participation to IPL 6 and numerous other online and offline competitions, Bondel-Jouin said the aim is to make ShootMania a “major player in international eSports in the years to come.”
