Samsung sells 100 million Galaxy S series smartphones

Samsung touts strong Galaxy S3 sales as we look to Galaxy S4

Samsung has announced that it has sold more than 100 million units of its Galaxy S series of smartphones globally.

The Korean technology giant has sold over 100 million Galaxy S, Galaxy S2 and Galaxy S3smartphones worldwide since the original launched in June 2010. However, as typical for Samsung, the figure is channel sales rather than the amount actually sold to customers. See also: Samsung Galaxy S4 release date, specs and rumours.

Samsung said: "Galaxy smartphones are intuitive and easy to use, display photos and videos on dazzling screens, and deliver a premium user experience with a design that is elegant and feels natural."

The original Galaxy S has sold more than 24 million units since launching in 2010, 10 million of which occurred in the first seven months. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S2 has proven very popular reaching sales of 40 million since April 2011. It reached the 10 million mark two months quicker than the Galaxy S.

It was the Galaxy S3 which trumped both of its predecessors reaching sales of 20 million in 100 days after launching in May 2011 making it Samsung's fastest ever selling smartphone. Samsung said the iPhone 5 rival has now reached the 40 million mark.

Samsung didn't announce any new smartphones at this year's CES show, although it did show off its flexible display called Youm. And it may not even a new flagship handset at MWC. It's all eyes and ears as to when Samsung will unveil its next device, probably the Galaxy S4.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
