Sony Australia quiet on mysterious Ultra HD player for $25K BRAVIA TV

No plans for local release of '4K Ultra HD' movie player or content

None

Sony Australia has been in touch with a quick response to our inquiry into whether Australian 84-inch BRAVIA TV buyers can expect to get a free, as-yet-unannounced media 'delivery solution' that will display native Ultra High Definition video to the screen.

The official response from Sony Australia is as concise as it is disappointing:

"At this stage, this is a local US initiative with Sony Pictures Entertainment."

Sony USA announced this week on its official blog that it had a surprise for anyone who had pre-ordered the $25,000 84-inch BRAVIA KD-84X9000 Ultra HD TV — it will be supplying, bundled with every television, "the world’s first 4K Ultra HD delivery solution, complete with pre-loaded, native 4K entertainment.

"Not some goofy 4K content shot as a demo. I’m talking full length feature Hollywood productions, and available exclusively to purchasers of Sony’s 84” 4K Ultra HD TV."

It is possible that Sony Australia will announce a similar promotion in the future as Ultra HD BRAVIAs continue to ship to initial customers. It's more likely, though, that CES 2013 will be Sony's opportunity to officially unveil its plans for the next-generation technology, and Australian availability, pricing, and content availability will be confirmed then.

LIFEBOOK UH574

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

STYLISTIC Q702

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.

STYLISTIC Q702

My first impression after unboxing the Q702 is that it is a nice looking unit. Styling is somewhat minimalist but very effective. The tablet part, once detached, has a nice weight, and no buttons or switches are located in awkward or intrusive positions.
