There were some great entries, and some very tough competition to choose from, but we've picked three deserving winners from our Max Payne 3 give-away.
We asked you to give us a gritty, Max Payne-esque noir story about what you'd go through to win our prizes. The best response wins a Max Payne 3-themed Apple iPad 16GB Wi-Fi in white, while the two next best comments each win a Zotac Geforce GTX 670 AMP! Edition graphics card.
The first prize, the one-of-a-kind Rockstar Games Max Payne 3 iPad, goes to Siang Lim, for this chilling prose:
Siang Lim: What would you go through?" The question mocked me. A thousand thoughts ran through my head. Finally, it stopped on one. I started to type my answer out, when a couple of Simpson's goons crashed through the door. A bullet flies past me. I'm lucky they can't aim. I slide under the table, grab my gun from the underside and take them both out before they could blink.
I step over their bodies and peer down the stairwell. More of them. I race back into my room, barely avoiding the rain of bullets. I jump out the window, and brace myself as I crash into some poor girl's room. She was too petrified to scream. I only had one thing to say. "I need to use your computer." I type in my answer and hit send. I won't get another chance. It's time to pay my friend Simpson a visit.
Runner-up prizes, each of a Zotac Geforce GTX 670 AMP! Edition graphics card, go to Dean Sinclair and John Vargas for these equally well-crafted short stories:
Dean Sinclair: The graphics card was in the next room. Just one problem, a thousand gunshots surrounded me. I couldn't even think straight. Completely outta ammo, not to mention luck, I caught sight of a pump action shotgun kept behind the bar counter. My lucky day. To my right, bags of C4. They must have been planning on leveling the place. Makes sense; I was inside the building after all.
It's hard to formulate a plan while under fire. The most you can ever manage is 'dive here, shoot there' but I had a funny feeling that was all I'd need. Grabbed the shotgun, dove over the bar mid-shot and made a break for the window. My next shot had to be dead on. Breaking through a window isn't bad, but when there's an explosion nearby it really stings.
Would have stung more from the inside of the building.
John Vargas: I'd battle the mafia, mobsters, police, drug-runners *and* the mysterious Aesir Corporation in the freezing streets of bleak New York. It'd be a hell of a fight, but I'd win it.
After that, I'd find myself up against combat-hardened contract killers in the dead of night, and more mobsters besides. They'd almost be the end of me, but I'd take down their boss and I'd be victorious again.
Once I thought that was all over, I'd try to find peace. But my past would catch up, I'd have to flee to sunny, sweaty Sao Paolo, and it'd all start again. I'd be fighting for my life against gangs, paramilitia, corrupt Brazilian elite police, and even those who I'd counted on as friends...
Congratulations to our winners - their stories were just that tiny bit better than the other comments, many of which were excellent. We'll get in touch with our three lucky readers to send out their prizes.
