Apple’s iOS 6 can be scaled for taller iPhone 5 display with 24 icons

Further proof that Apple is about to launch a taller iPhone with a 4in display has been found, following some changes to the iOS Simulator application.
9To5Mac reports that the simulator, which is included as part of the iOS development tools, gives developers the option to run the operating system at a resolution of 640 x 1136, the rumoured resolution of the iPhone 5.
When running iOS 5.1 in the simulator at the new resolution, there were four rows of icons with a larger space between them than usual. On iOS 6, however, the simulator displayed five rows of icons, allowing a total of 24 icons to be displayed on one screen.
As well as adding evidence to the taller iPhone rumours, this new discovery indicates that the iPhone 5 will launch with iOS 6 installed, so the unveiling will likely be around the autumn time frame Apple has already set for the launch of iOS 6.
It looks likely that Apple will launch the iPhone at a special event in September, with widespread rumours suggesting 12 September will be the day.
