Yamaha slims down new Blu-ray player

BD-S473 slim-line player supports DLNA, YouTube, USB media

Yamaha's new BD-S473 Blu-ray player inherits its features from last year's BD-S671, but is slimmer, cheaper, and more powerful.

The BD-S473 can play 2D and 3D Blu-ray movies, and can stream video at up to 1080p over its wired Ethernet network connection. The same network connection enables YouTube playback directly from the Blu-ray player, along with the usual BD-Live interactive features of compatible discs.

The BD-S473 will work seamlessly with Yamaha's current range of HDMI-compatible A/V receivers, and can be controlled with the A/V receiver's remote control once connected. A third device, the Yamaha YWA-10, can be added to make both the receiver and BD-S473 connect to a home network over Wi-Fi.

If Wi-Fi is used, the BD-S473 can be controlled with Yamaha's iOS or Android app, A/V Controller.

The Yamaha BD-S473 is available now for a $229 RRP.
