ASUS Zenbook Prime Ultrabook gets Ivy Bridge plus Full HD screen
- — 07 June, 2012 13:27
ASUS today announced two new Ultrabooks at Computex: the ASUS Zenbook Prime UX21A and the ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A. These units will both feature third generation Intel Core CPUs (formerly codenamed Ivy Bridge), and the larger of the two models, the UX31A will be available with a Core i7 CPU. The UX21A will have a Core i5 CPU.
The UX31A is a 13.3in Ultrabook with a weight of about 1.3kg; with a Core i7 CPU it will cost $1399. The UX21A is an 11.6in Ultrabook with a weight of about 1.1kg; with a Core i5 CPU, it will cost $899, which is a price point that many manufacturers failed to meet when Ultrabooks were first introduced to the market last year.
Along with the third generation CPUs, both Zenbook Prime Ultrabooks will feature USB 3.0 ports and they will have a solid state drive running a 6Gbps SATA interface, rather than 3GBps. Most importantly, the new Zenbooks (even the 11.6in version) will be available with an IPS-based LCD panel with a 1920x1080 resolution and a matte finish.
The Zenbook Prime Ultrabooks aren't for sale in Australia yet, with representatives for ASUS saying in statement that they will be made available in the coming months. They are hotly anticipated units, mainly for their thin, razor-like designs, and for the better specifications that they will carry compared to the first generation Zenbooks. The addition of Ivy Bridge, a Full HD IPS panel and a backlit keyboard should theoretically make both units hard to beat once they are released.
