Gears of War 3 "Fenix Rising" DLC now available on Xbox LIVE

New features include new maps, characters and a reworked experience system

Microsoft and Epic have released the third major game add-on for Gears of War 3, "Fenix Rising", on Xbox LIVE.

The latest DLC consists of five new Marcus Fenix-themed multiplayer maps, titled Academy, Anvil, Depths, Escalation, and the Slab, as well as four new character skins depicting Recruit Clayton, Thrashball Cole (Limited Edition), Savage Marauder and Savage Kantus (Limited Edition).

The new maps and skins can be used in the versus multiplayer and Horde models, while the maps can also be used in Beast mode.

Players who feel that they have maxed out their character can also look forward to a reworked experience system that enables ranking up to level 100 four times, with the user rewarded with exclusive emblems and weapon skins when they do.

"With the purchase of the add-on, players who attain level 100 will have a choice to 're-up' for another tour of duty to showcase their valour and dedication as elite Gears of War fans", a Microsoft spokesperson said.

The reworked function has been designed to reset the player's experience and rank while keeping all other progression, including the TrueSkill rating, intact.

To ensure long term replayability for skilled player, "re-upping" can be done up to three times.

New wing colours, red, green, and gold, are awarded to the player each time they re-up, while the rank number will be coloured red, green, or blue.

"Each re-up level also awards the player an exclusive, custom weapon skin that cannot be obtained by any other means", the spokesperson added.

The "Fenix Rising" DLC is now available for download on Xbox LIVE in Australia and New Zealand for 800 Microsoft Points.

The DLC is also included as part of the Gears of War 3 Season Pass, which contains the earlier game add-ons for 2400 Microsoft Points, a total discount of 33 per cent.

The most recent Gears of War 3 DLC released prior to "Fenix Rising" was "RAAM's Shadow", a dedicated single player campaign set before the events of the original Gears of War.

I didn't have enough cash to buy this DLC, but luckily I found a site giving away some free Fenix

Rising codes, so I'm playing it, and enjoying it very much, definitely my favorite DLC so far.

The site I found had a few more codes left to giveaway, so if you guys want to try your luck at

it, here's the link to the site:
