Activision Blizzard will be kicking off nine consecutive months of downloadable content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 starting with Xbox LIVE on 24 January.
The content, co-developed by Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software, will be made available first for Call of Duty Elite's premium members on Xbox LIVE
"The mammoth launch of Modern Warfare 3 and the breakout success of Call of Duty Elite were just the beginning", Activision Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg, said.
"Call of Duty Elite provides an 'always-on' connection to our fanbase, and the Content Season is the ultimate way to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the Call of Duty community and provide tremendous value to Call of Duty Elite premium members."
Starting from January, Call of Duty Elite premium members on Xbox LIVE can expect to receive at least 20 all new content drops on a regular bases through to September.
All content drops will occur once a month, with five different content drops being released on three occasions in January, February and March.
The new Modern Warfare 3 content will not only consist of new multiplayer maps, but players can also expect Special Ops Missions, new game modes and other features.
"With the Content Season, we are delivering on our promise of more new content, more often, and with more variety than ever", Hirshberg said.
"Thanks to the expertise of our developers, the reach of Call of Duty Elite and the passion of our fans, we intend to deliver".
The first two content drops will be multiplayer maps based on a war-torn Central Park and an Italian seaside village, entitled Liberation and Piazza respectively, and can be played in Modern Warfare 3's Survival Mode.
The third content drop will be available for download in mid-February and two additional Content Drops will go live in March, though what content this will entail has not been confirmed.
While Call of Duty Elite premium subscribers will be the first ones to gain access to the new content, Modern Warfare 3 players who are not subscribed to the service will be able to buy the content as they have in the past via the Modern Warfare 3 Content Collections download.
The first Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection will be released on Xbox LIVE in March.
While the new content will first be made available on Xbox LIVE, Activison Blizzard PR manager, Tegan Knight, expects the downloads to come to additional platforms "at a later time".
