GoGrid to offer dedicated line between its data centers

The service is aimed at helping customers avoid latency and congestion issues

Infrastructure-as-a-service provider GoGrid is adding a dedicated line service between its facilities so users can be sure of fast and secure transfers.

Customers with applications that require fast database replication or that use GoGrid's two data centers for disaster recovery may be interested in the new CloudLink offering, executives said. "Anybody who wants to keep data in sync" will be interested in the service, Rupert Tagnipes, product lead for the CloudLink service said.

The offering will help companies avoid the latency and congestion issues that sometimes impact traffic sent over the public Internet.

GoGrid has leased a dedicated line between its data centers in San Francisco and Ashburn, Virginia, and can dedicate an amount of bandwidth to customers that want to be assured of fast and secure throughput. Traffic is segregated between customers, said Tagnipes.

GoGrid uses a hardware virtual local area network in its data center to isolate and protect customer traffic on the line.

Customers pay based on bandwidth, not the amount of traffic they send over it. GoGrid will charge US$99 per month for 10M bps of bandwidth on the low end up to $4,999 per month for 1G bps, with the top pricing level requiring a one-year commitment.

GoGrid expects to make the service available before the end of the year.

Amazon Web Services offers a different kind of dedicated connection for its customers. AWS users can set up a dedicated line from their own location to Amazon's data centers. Amazon offers its Direct Connect service to its data centers in Virginia and California.

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
