Google adds visual traffic flow graphics to Analytics

Google's senior vice president of advertising announced the feature at the Web 2.0 Summit

Google has started rolling out to its Analytics accounts a new feature that displays graphically for Web publishers how people are moving across their sites.

The feature, called Flow Visualization, is designed to give Web publishers another way of monitoring usage of their sites so that they can optimize content and advertising.

"This will help [Analytics] data be told in a story that can be understood quickly and easily," said Susan Wojcicki, Google's senior vice president of advertising, during an appearance at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco.

The flow graphics can be sorted in different ways to see visitors from various parameters, such as the browser they're using and the geographic region they're located in.

Wojcicki and a Google official demonstrated Flow Visualization's feature with live data from the Analytics account of the Google Store, an online store that the company uses to sell Google-branded merchandise, like T-shirts, pens and coffee mugs.

The Flow Visualization tool is intended to complement the numerical representation of Analytics data.
