Apple's overhauled Final Cut Pro X now available in Australia

Apple has released the latest version of its Final Cut Pro non-linear video editing software in the Australian Mac App Store. Apple's Final Cut Pro X is available now for $349.99 on the Australian version of the App Store, $50 dearer than the US online store price. The software has been entirely rewritten to run in a 64-bit environment supporting multi-threaded processing and GPU acceleration.
Apple Final Cut Pro X builds on the features offered in the previous Final Cut Pro 7, which was released in 2007. Apple's approach to non-linear video editing has changed with the introduction of the Magnetic Timeline, a track-less layout that lets users connect and adjust clips dynamically while automatically moving other footage as required. Instead of operating with separate tracks for audio and video, the two can be connected to ensure sound effects and recordings remain in sync through the editing process. A new Audition feature lets editors compare several clips at one point in the timeline to showcase different takes.
Final Cut Pro X is a 64-bit application, requiring a computer with a 64-bit capable processor that is at least an Intel Core 2 Duo or better. Apple's MacBook Pro and MacBook notebooks and the iMac all-in-one desktop computer have supported 64-bit processing since late 2006, and the Mac Pro has been fully 64-bit compliant since its mid-2006 debut. Final Cut Pro X requires Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.7 or later, requiring any Mac user with an earlier version of OS X to update or purchase the latest operating system.
Apple's new editing software includes increased gesture support for anyone using the Magic Trackpad or other Apple gesture-enabled multitouch input device. The soon-to-be-released Apple OS X Lion operating system is heavily integrated with gesture controls, marking another step in Apple's move away from traditional keyboard and mice which started with the original iPhone's release in early 2007.
While Apple Final Cut Pro X includes some of the sound editing and colour grading features previously found in the Apple Final Cut Studio suite, two additional apps for encoding and computer-generated graphics — Apple Compressor 4 and Apple Motion 5 — must be purchased separately. Both Motion and Compressor are $59.99 each in the Australian Mac App Store. Final Cut Pro X is available on the Australian Mac App Store now; it is a 2.4GB download.
