Canon has announced a new entry-level telephoto zoom lens for its EOS range of digital SLRs. The Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II is an upgraded version of the existing EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS lens, which will continue to be offered in bundles with Canon EOS digital SLR camera bodies.

The upgrades to the Canon EF-S 55-250mm lens are purely cosmetic — a platinum ring sits in front of the lens’ zoom ring, and the body of the lens is finished in a faux-leather texture. Like the previous version of the lens, the EF-S 55-250mm has an internal image stabiliser that floats lens elements to eliminate camera shake during shooting.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II only works on APS-C ‘crop’ sensor digital SLR cameras from Canon, like the entry-level EOS 600D and mid-range EOS 60D. High-end cameras using a ‘full-frame’ 35mm imaging sensor, like the Canon 5D Mark II and EOS 1Ds Mark III, are not compatible.

Pricing has not yet been announced for the new Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II lens.

The Fujitsu LifeBook UH574 allowed for great mobility without being obnoxiously heavy or clunky. Its twelve hours of battery life did not disappoint.

The screen was particularly good. It is bright and visible from most angles, however heat is an issue, particularly around the Windows button on the front, and on the back where the battery housing is located.
