Australian horror movie The Tunnel available free over BitTorrent

Legal torrent download available for innovative Australian movie, TV and DVD also available

A horror movie written and produced in Sydney has become available for free legal download over BitTorrent after a long development process and significant attention from 'viral' social media and word of mouth. The Tunnel, a project by Distracted Media and Zapruder's Other Films, is being distributed and promoted through BitTorrent — the torrent carrier service widely used to distribute illegal copies of movies, TV shows and other content.

Instead of following a traditional publishing model with a screening release across Australian and international cinemas, The Tunnel is being released simultaneously as a torrent — using peer-to-peer file sharing technology that lets users download content from many different 'seeds' at once, allowing fast download speeds and the rapid proliferation of data — as well as on DVD and on the Showtime movie channel on Foxtel and Austar.

At the time of writing, The Tunnel's high definition and standard definition torrents had had 6387 downloads from official release site Vodo.net. The 720p high definition torrent has over 2300 seeders and almost 3800 downloaders, while the standard definition torrent is less popular with 300 seeds and almost 1000 downloaders.

The movie follows a television news crew exploring abandoned train tunnels under Sydney, and was created on a shoestring budget with filming taking place in disused and derelit tunnels and train stations around the Sydney area.

You can download The Tunnel here through its official torrent listing at Vodo.net.
