How 'new' is the new iMac? iFixit teardown tells all

Apple announced its new upgraded iMacs earlier this week, and sure enough, the geeks over at iFixit have already cracked one open to discover their deepest, darkest secrets.
iFixit took apart the new 21.5-inch iMac, which is rocking the model number EMC 2428, discovering that the desktop has the same LED display, as manufactured by LG, as used in the previous generation iMac. The teardown also revealed that the new quad-core models, which can be snapped up on the Apple store now, have plenty in common with the previous iMac model and the current MacBook Pro.
The latest model also shares the same Thunderbolt controller from Intel as found in the early 2011 15-inch MacBook Pro--which is not terribly surprising considering Intel created the technology. This is, however, the first iMac to include the new Thunderbolt port.
Beyond the similarities, the spruced-up machines are packing a Sony Optiarc optical drive, an Intel Core i5 CPU, and an AMD Radeon HD GDDR5 graphic chips.
