iPad 2 Australian pricing confirmed, available Friday

Apple has confirmed its hotly anticipated iPad 2 will launch this Friday in Australia, with prices starting at $579 for the entry level 16GB Wi-Fi version.

Available from 5pm Friday through Apple retail stores and select authorised resellers, the iPad 2 is slightly cheaper than the original iPad. The pricing is identical to information that was leaked via a post on Australian technology forum Whirlpool.
The Apple iPad 2 is available in black and white models and is priced as follows:
iPad 2 16GB – Wi-Fi $579.00
iPad 2 32GB – Wi-Fi $689.00
iPad 2 64GB – Wi-Fi $799.00
iPad 2 16GB – Wi-Fi + 3G $729.00
iPad 2 32GB – Wi-Fi + 3G $839.00
iPad 2 64GB – Wi-Fi + 3G $949.00
"While competitors are still struggling to catch up with our first iPad, we’ve changed the game again with iPad 2,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs in a statement. “We’re experiencing amazing demand for iPad 2 in the U.S., and customers around the world have told us they can't wait to get their hands on it. We appreciate everyone’s patience and we are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”
In addition to the Australian launch, the iPad 2 will begin selling on 25 March in Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
