Last night the two millionth .au domain name was registered. According to domain wholesaler AusRegistry, .au is one of the top 10 most popular country domain suffixes in the world.

Tony Staley, chair of the .au Domain Administration (auDA) board, said that ".au is Australia's home on the Internet. It's a trusted, well-recognised space for all Australian businesses, organisations and individuals. .au's consistent growth, meaningful stakeholder engagement and sound policy framework are a ringing endorsement of the industry self-regulatory model under which we operate."

auDA CEO Chris Disspain said there were only about 275,000 .au domains registered in 2002, when auDA introduced a new competition model.
