Honeycomb ported to Nexus One, sadly can't make calls

Honeycomb appears on a smartphone

Until now, Google's upcoming Android OS software Honeycomb has been reserved for just tablet devices. Also, other than a Nook Color, there have been quite minimal hacks to attempt to get the OS running on other platforms. One XDA Developer accepted the challenge of trying to get Honeycomb working on a smartphone and he has succeeded to some extent — behold the Nexus One running Android 3.0! Though don't rejoice just yet.

Forum member "Bypass23" used the Honeycomb SDK to compile a ROM bootable on the Nexus phone. He points out that the SDK has been left pretty much untouched, opening the way for other keen developers to improve the UI of Honeycomb on phones. More information other than this is sadly lacking, though we do know that the hack is still a little green, so some areas don't work yet or require fiddly workarounds. You know, important stuff like using your phone to take calls or write texts. According to a member who tried the hack for himself, though, the Wi-Fi, camera, bluetooth, accelerometer, and sound work fine, so you can still have a little fun with Honeycomb.

So it's a nice hack in development, but don't forget the main point of having a phone is to make calls and texts (yes, not just playing cool apps!). Until Bypass23 or other developers working on this hack give it the nod, it may be worth waiting for those important functions to be added before trying it for yourself.

Check out the forum thread to see more screenshots of the OS and what others are saying about the port.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

A smarter way to print for busy small business owners, combining speedy printing with scanning and copying, making it easier to produce high quality documents and images at a touch of a button.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

I’d happily recommend this touchscreen laptop and Windows 10 as a great way to get serious work done at a desk or on the road.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre x360

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
