Memorex recalls melting Wii controller charger

The Memorex products affected by the recall.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has issued a recall for a third-party controller charger for the Nintendo Wii games console, citing concerns that it may overheat and melt.
The Memorex Dual Controller Charging Kit uses inductive charging and does not require the controllers to be directly charged with a cable, instead using a specialised battery pack for the Wii controller and a powered charging pad. Inductive charging kits are a common third-party accessory for mobile phones, with products from Powermat, Uniden and Olin making products for the Apple iPhone.
Memorex began selling the Dual Controller Charging Kit in October 2010, with sales restricted to Dick Smith stores nationally. The affected charger is also part of the Memorex Premium Starter Kit for the Wii. The product recall notice, mirrored on Memorex's Web site, states that the Memorex Dual Controller Charging Kit may become too warm to safely touch. The recall mentions that in rare cases the Dual Controller Charging Kit could melt and deform.
Anyone who has purchased the inductive charging kit is advised to return it to Dick Smith for a refund or replacement.
