TV manufacturer Sharp will sell some of its LCD TVs under the Pioneer brand in the USA and Canada after a deal between the two companies, but Australia will miss out.
Some Sharp LCD TV models will be released on the US market with Pioneer 'Elite' branding — the American equivalent to Australia's KURO plasma TV line-up, which died when Pioneer ended worldwide TV production in 2009. A Sharp USA press release says the two companies will collaborate on a line of high-end LCD televisions to complement Pioneer's existing Elite range of home theatre, Blu-ray and speaker products. However, a representative from Pioneer Australia has confirmed that there are no plans to sell Sharp televisions under the Pioneer brand in the Australian market.
Sharp and Pioneer have been collaborating since early 2009, when the struggling Pioneer company released a plan for its return to profitability. The new Pioneer Elite televisions will be sold in the USA and Canada through Pioneer's dealer network.
