Earlier today, Japan's Intellectual Property High Court ruled against the Sony Corporation in a lawsuit, ordering the company to pay former employee Hidehiro Kume 5.1 million yen in unpaid earnings.
58-year old Kume is noted as the inventor of "small optical pickup" used to play and record data on optical discs for game consoles. This technology was said to be used in PlayStation consoles during and prior to 2003, with Kume seeking 100 million yen in unpaid fees for his contribution.
"I thank the court for identifying some of my contributions to the company," said Kume at a news conference following the court ruling. "But the company should have appreciated my contributions when I was an employee."
