Cortado's Corporate Server becomes Android-friendly

The increasing popularity of Android is attracting more enterprise software vendors, according to Gartner

German software vendor Cortado has added Android-based smartphones to the list of devices using version 5.0 of its Corporate Server platform that can access network printers and documents stored in corporate networks, the company said on Tuesday.

Users can also create PDF documents and faxes, and access database reports with Corporate Server, it said. The platform is already compatible with Apple's iPhone and Research In Motion's smartphones, now including ones that use RIM's BlackBerry Internet service as well.

The increasing popularity of Android and the expectation that it will become the second-biggest mobile OS, is attracting more enterprise software vendors, according to Leif-Olof Wallin, research vice president at Gartner. Apple's iPhone is still the most important smartphone OS, but Android now comes in second place, he said.

In June, Cortado also released its Workplace product, which allows users to remotely store, view and manage documents for Android-based smartphones.

Besides Android and RIM's BlackBerry Internet Service, version 5.0 of Corporate Server has a new search feature that lets users look for network printers in Microsoft's Active Directory, according to Cortado. The platform's "cloud printing feature" lets users print from any network printer within an organization, it said.

Cortado Corporate Server 5.0 costs €795 (US$1,050) for five users.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.

For work use, Microsoft Word and Excel programs pre-installed on the device are adequate for preparing short documents.
