Activision throws one helluva E3 party

The publisher spares no expense on its annual E3 bash with a enviable musical line-up mainly to promote DJ Hero 2.

Activision is banking on DJ Hero 2 being a winner, pouring big money into a formidable playlist.

At the Activision E3 event on Monday, the company treated guests and media with performances by some of the artists gracing DJ Hero 2. Performers included Deadmau5, David Guetta, Usher, Eminem, Jane’s Addiction, N.E.R.D, Rihanna and Chris Cornell of Soundgarden fame.

Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Justice are also part of DJ Hero 2’s repertoire.

Did we mention that Deadmau5, David Guetta, Usher, Eminem, Jane’s Addiction, N.E.R.D, Rihanna and Chris Cornell from Soundgarden were there? Activision sure knows how to throw a party!

In between performances by the impressive line-up (and a scantily clad chick on a gigantic pole), clips of some other games were shown.

Still milking the Guitar Hero franchise, Activision showed off Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock which will feature demonic ‘Warrior’ personas for each character. Not sure how that would add to the gameplay (if at all) but at least they look pretty awesome.

Being of Hong Kong descent, I’m still trying to decide whether True Crime: Hong Kong has nailed the authentic vibe of the coastal island and the clip I saw did nothing to help with a decision (although this may have had something to do with the frenetic MTV editing). What the clip did show was an execution style kill with an enemy thrown onto an electric fence causing him to jitter and frazzle in an entertaining-cum-horrific manner. No indecisiveness there; I like it.

Tony Hawk was at the event to spruik Tony Hawk: Shred. Judging from the preview, a skateboard peripheral will be required for the game. The pro skater, sadly, piked out on a skateboard performance due to technical difficulties.

So what could have upstaged the star studded line-up at the Activision bash? Gameplay footage of Call of Duty: Black Ops (Click here to jump to article).
