The Australian newspaper has announced today that it will launch the first domestic newspaper application for the Apple iPad.
According to the Australian, the iPad app will be constantly updated with additional content and user features in the coming months.
Editor-in-chief Chris Mitchell has said that the app will allow his paper to lead the publishing industry from the front. "This is an exciting development for our readers, who want The Australian's agenda-setting news and authoritative comment as it happens, wherever they are," said a statement from Mitchell. "We are investing significantly in digital media as this will be the way a new generation of readers will choose to consume our journalism." The app will have an "introductory price" of $4.99 per month and will be available to download on the iPad app store from 28 May, the day the iPad is released in Australia.
