Surprise gig: Virgin Mobile offering free data

Sir Richard Branson hosted Virgin Mobile's first "surprise gig," held at Melbourne's Ding Dong lounge.
Virgin Mobile is giving a bonus 1GB of data to new and existing Australian customers as part of a mobile Internet promotion.
Running until 30 June, the 1GB offer is available for all post-paid and prepaid Virgin Mobile customers on mobile phone and mobile broadband plans. The 1GB of bonus data is valid for a period of three months.
Virgin Mobile's marketing director, Anthony Hearne, said the initiative allows Virgin Mobile members to fully experience mobile Internet.
"With the rise of smartphones, a lot of people can now access the Internet from their handset. But because we all use the Internet differently, we want to give our members the freedom to go where they want, rather than restricting them to one or two sites," he said.
As part of the initiative Virgin Mobile has also announced the "Surprise Gig Tour," a series of free music gigs around Australia announced at the last minute. The first surprise gig kicked off on Saturday night at Melbourne's Ding Dong lounge. The gig was hosted by Sir Richard Branson and featured a live performance by Australian band Wolfmother.
The remainder of the surprise gigs will be announced on Virgin Mobile's Facebook page, with the next scheduled event in Sydney set to feature a performance by American band MGMT.
