Nintendo's handheld 3D console fails to impress

Why Nintendo's 3D baby is an abomination

The Internet is abuzz with news of a new handheld console from Nintendo with the ability to play 3D games. More details will be announced at this year's E3.

We were lucky enough to see the system in action -- someone was selling a prototype on eBay -- and we have to say, we aren't very impressed. To put it bluntly, it's a travesty of a system – amongst the worst we’ve ever seen.

The "portable" unit consisted of goggles mounted on a stand (looking like some kind of compact, plastic peep show), along with a chunky control pad. WTF, Nintendo?

Even the 3D isn't that great. By rapidly displaying slightly different images to the right and the left eye, the goggles replicate the illusion of three dimensions.

Although the technique is not unlike the one used for 3D IMAX movies, the console simply doesn't stack up, thanks to its cheap technology. Instead of bright colours, pixilated red-on-black monochrome images are used. If that's not bad enough, it also gives you nasty headaches.

To be honest, we don’t understand what everyone is getting so excited about. The thing looks like it came out of 1995, or something. That said, it’s still better than the PSP Go…

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

A smarter way to print for busy small business owners, combining speedy printing with scanning and copying, making it easier to produce high quality documents and images at a touch of a button.

HP OfficeJet Pro 8730

I've had a multifunction printer in the office going on 10 years now. It was a neat bit of kit back in the day -- print, copy, scan, fax -- when printing over WiFi felt a bit like magic. It’s seen better days though and an upgrade’s well overdue. This HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 looks like it ticks all the same boxes: print, copy, scan, and fax. (Really? Does anyone fax anything any more? I guess it's good to know the facility’s there, just in case.) Printing over WiFi is more-or- less standard these days.

Windows 10 / HP Spectre x360

Ultimately, I think the Windows 10 environment is excellent for me as it caters for so many different uses. The inclusion of the Xbox app is also great for when you need some downtime too!

Windows 10 / Lenovo Yoga 910

For me, the Xbox Play Anywhere is a great new feature as it allows you to play your current Xbox games with higher resolutions and better graphics without forking out extra cash for another copy. Although available titles are still scarce, but I’m sure it will grow in time.
