Amazon has released a version of its Kindle application for Mac OS X. Kindle for Mac can be downloaded from Amazon for free.

Kindle for Mac lets users purchase and download eBooks from Amazon's Kindle Store. A Kindle for PC application was released in 2009.

The new software lets users view books in full colour, as well as notes and highlights made with the Kindle, Kindle DX or Kindle for iPhone app. According to Amazon, the company will be adding more features to the new application, including full text search and the ability to create and edit notes and highlights.

It also lets readers share their eBooks between an Apple Mac computer, iPhone running Amazon's app and a Kindle, with the ability to synchronise bookmarks and track the last page read.
