BlackBerry Twitter users rejoice! The official BlackBerry Twitter app will finally be released on BlackBerry App World in the coming weeks.

Speaking to GoodGearGuide at a one-on-one briefing on the BlackBerry Storm2, RIM's Senior Carrier Relationship Manager, Michael Momsen, said the Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones app will launch "in the next few weeks."

One of the most anticipated features of the app is push notifications for direct messages. These will tie into the current BlackBerry notifications on the home screen.

We weren't able to get hands-on time with the pre-release version, but we can tell you that the interface looks slick and user friendly, and it ran relatively smoothly.

The Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones app will work on all BlackBerrys running OS 4.5 or later, including the newly released BlackBerry Storm2 smartphone.

If you want to know as soon as the app is available, you can register your details at BlackBerry's official Twitter app page.
