Devnet launches first Google Apps store

Australian Google partner Devnet has launched a Google Apps store. The store is focusing on selling third-party applications that complement the Google Apps platform.
Craig Deveson, CEO of Devnet, believes that the store will continue to build Google Apps' reputation. “The store will facilitate a rounding of the Google Apps platform... we are trying to create an ecosystem where our clients and potential clients can streamline their businesses,” he said.
The Devnet Google App Store currently allows customers to subscribe to Google Apps plus a range of value-added services like Postini mail security and archiving. Deveson said that Devnet was in negotiations with a range of third-party application developers.
“We are not aiming to be a mobile apps store with thousands of applications...we are trying to focus on key apps that fit certain market groups. It is certainly a business-based store,” said Deveson. “By the end of the year, I would expect there would be few business requirements that we won't be able to meet via the Devnet Google Apps Store.”
Devnet has been an authorised Google Apps reseller in Australia since 2008. Deveson says that the first couple of years of selling Google Apps were spent convincing businesses of the benefits of cloud computing, but 2010 will be different. “We don’t spend so much time selling the concept as Microsoft and IBM have entered the market, validating the cloud computing solution for businesses,” he said.
