Despite Twitter going into rumour overdrive, Spotify is still waiting to see if an iPhone application submission will make it past the Apple's App Store approval process.

Based on reports from Swedish online news sources, in Swedish no less, rumours spread the Spotify iPhone application had been rejected, with Apple after all needing to protect future iTunes sales from the Swedish streaming music service, which offers a free option for listening to music.

Later in the afternoon Spotify responded to the stories.

"Twitter, right? We've also been reading Tweets claiming the exact opposite. Absolutely nothing in it - we've still to hear back from Apple. We ran over some technical questions with them the other week but that's as far as it's gone. We're as eager to hear back as you are!"

While we await Apple's answer the Swedish Wire reports Spotify lost of 31.8 million kronor (£2.8 million) last year, almost double that of losses made in the previous year. Despite money concerns, the company is looking to expand its global reach with Spotify services planned for the US and China.
