Navigon has announced the launch of three new GPS navigation units in Australia, with the German company claiming the new devices — the Navigon 1300, Navigon 3300max and Navigon 4350max — are the first on the market that learn from an individual's driving habits to plan a route.

Navigon's MyRoutes feature plans a route based on the user's past driving habits, the day of the week and the time of travel. Competing GPS manufacturer TomTom offers a similar routing feature called IQ Routes, though this calculates routes based on the real average speeds of drivers compared to speed limits, rather than a user's actual driving habits.

"The new MyRoutes feature lets the GPS device learn from the users past driving experiences," said Joern Watzke of Navigon. "For example, if certain road types at different times take the driver too long because they are crowded, the device will try to avoid them in future route recommendations at those times."

Competing directly against GPS powerhouses TomTom, Garmin and Navman in the Australian portable navigation market, the new Navigon models come on the back of the debut of the brand in Australia in 2008. The Navigon 2110max and 2150max hit the market last September.

The new Navigon GPS units are available at all Harvey Norman stores across Australia. The entry-level Navigon 1300 has a RRP of $229, the 3330max is $299 and the 4350max is $399.
